Marketing Medicine announce that they are thrilled to have been selected to raise the profile of CityDoc with Birmingham City Centre businesses as the company locate their first private GP clinic outside London.

CityDoc is the brainchild of Doctors Eoghan MacSweeney and James Ghalaey who have established two medical clinics in London, one in Wimpole Street and the other in The City. The stylish new CityDoc centre in Maddox House, Edmund Street, is their first in a series of planned expansions outside of the capital.

Each year, it is estimated by the CBI that British industry loses in excess of £13 billion as a result of staff sickness and absenteeism. The Birmingham business and professional services sector – home to 200 law firms, 50 major property services and one of Europe’s largest insurance markets and a workforce of 90,000 projected to increase by over 20,000 by 2012 – stands to suffer more than most as a result of such trends.

Individual workers or businesses will be able to receive same day examinations and necessary referrals for everything from blood pressure tests to travel vaccinations. Dr Eoghan MacSweeney said: “Four times as many working hours are lost each year as a result of visits to the doctor as were lost to industrial action simply because staff have no choice but to visit their surgery during office hours which in itself costs the UK economy £1 billion each year.

“CityDoc is partly a response to the inflexible and business unfriendly service that employers are having to put up with. “In business and professional services, the old saying that time is money is particularly apt. “Instead of having to wait several days for appointments for often minor ailments or health issues followed by time off to visit their NHS GP, it can now be taken care of quickly and effectively in a fraction of the time.”

The decision to locate the third CityDoc centre in Birmingham followed extensive market research which concluded that the continuing growth of the business and professional services sector was set to be a major driver for the continuing prosperity of the city. Eoghan continued: “Birmingham is the UK’s leading business and professional services centre outside of the capital so it made perfect sense for us to begin our national expansion plans here.

“Our practises in the capital show that there is a huge demand for facilities such as this in areas where professional corporate organisations are thriving and we’re extremely excited about opening our Birmingham operation. “We will be looking to work with as many of the city’s leading businesses as possible to showcase the benefits of our healthcare packages.

“Having a healthier team means more productivity, less sickness absence and compliance with a range of health and safety legislation.” The walk in service for members of the public offers flexibility for workers in offices in and around the financial district of the city.

CityDoc will also offer three different types of access to services: corporate membership which gives a 15 per cent discount across all services, corporate consultation packages which offers companies the chance to buy appointments for their team, and bespoke corporate packages which offer a tailor-made service for the needs of companies.

As part of the corporate packages, CityDoc can offer guaranteed, same-day appointments within the same morning or afternoon and can also arrange for doctors to attend regular sessions at larger workplaces. Results are even available via telephone by direct discussion with doctors, thus avoiding the need for extra time away from work.

Eoghan concluded: “We are absolutely convinced that CityDoc is what Birmingham’s business and professional services sector needs and we are excited about coming to a city that is clearly on the up.”  To find out more about CityDoc visit www.citydoc.org.uk
